Apple Music Awards 2018 winners: H.E.R. beats Drake, Drake beats H.E.R.

On Thursday night at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, Apple announced the winners of its eighth annual Apple Music Awards. Among the list of winners was Grammy Award-winning artist Olivia Rodrigo , who won this year’s Artist, Songwriter of the Year. The Weeknd was recognized for producer and songwriter of the year.

“Euphoria,” a song about losing control of one’s emotions, beat out other popular songs and nominated artists such as Drake, H.E.R. and Nicki Minaj to win for Best Songs, while “Youngblood” won for Best Collaboration of the Year. All three songs are featured on H.E.R.’s album, “H.E.R.”

According to Apple Music, “These awards celebrate that 2018 has been a watershed year for songs, videos, and artists, and we’re excited to celebrate the artists and industry insiders who are pushing the boundaries forward.”

New York rapper H.E.R, whose real name is Gabriella Ellis, also performed at the event.

“H.E.R has continuously delivered unique and innovative music with deep artistic influence,” said Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s worldwide radio program director, who is among the event’s executive producers. “These artists are role models for us all, and I’m proud to be a part of supporting their dream.”
